Volunteer Board of Director(s) for Women of Powerline Technicians (Remote)
Women of Powerline Technicians operating out of Ottawa is seeking an independent Director(s) to join its Board. Reporting to the Executive Director as a Board Member for Women of Powerline Technicians (Women of PLT) you ensure a disciplined approach to strategic planning, direction planning, assessing key decisions independently, ensuring Women of Powerline Technicians uphold ethical and legal standards, and provide the Executive Director with the necessary resources to effectively serve Women of Powerline Technicians members and stakeholders. This position will be integrated in the day-to-day activities, tasks, and strategy.
The Board meets every three weeks at mutually agreed upon time and currently under remote working conditions. Committee meetings are anticipated as Women of PLT continues to undertake initiatives, Board and Committee meeting frequency may vary to meet the needs of the firm.
Anticipated time commitment is 2-10 hours per week.
The term of the Board Member is two (2) – three (3) years.
As a national not-for-profit, Women of PLT’s mission is to have women as equal participants in trade and technical roles in the electricity sector. We work in close collaboration with a wide range of firms to advance and support the interests of the many stakeholders already significantly engaged in developing workforces that are reflective of regional diversity.
Our approach is in two streams, we advise leaders through a gender equity lens on how to advance their diversity and inclusion goals; and Women of PLT offers programming with a focus of supporting women in early, mid, and late careers in trade and technical roles.
Women of Powerline Technicians (Women of PLT) officially launched in 2016, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Our vision and ambition for the future of work go well beyond Canada’s electricity sector.

Women of Powerline Technicians invite expressions of interest from individuals who would like to be part of the Women of PLT team. We are looking for persons with a strong interest in women in trades, electricity future and sustainability.
Women of Powerline Technicians recognizes that Canada’s electricity sector has made gains towards racial, ethnic and gender diversity in the previous decades and historically underrepresented demographics of people are advancing in senior leadership roles. Women of Powerline Technicians is confident we can connect with committed and engaged people to advise as members of the board. As such, a priority of this Board is to include voices reflective of the diversity we look to develop in future generations.
The Board will be comprised of Directors who are independent, who have the willingness and ability to commit sufficient time to serving on the Board, and who ideally possess most if not all of the following attributes:
a) Previous board experience as a Director on the board of at least one organization.
b) Financial literacy, defined as the ability to understand the breadth and level of complexity of accounting and financial issues, reasonability expected to be raised in board discussions.
c) Executive experience operating in a complex organization with responsibility for human resources and significant risk management.
