What first attracted you to the electricity sector?

Back in 2010 I applied to every course in the college, I was not sure at that point what I wanted to do. Then I got accepted into the powerline technician course. It was a 9 month course, and I loved it since day one. Now I’ve been in the electricity sector for 7 years now.

Can you give a brief summary of the responsibilities and duties of your occupation?

Right now I’m in a quality inspector role. Inspecting framing, setting, stringing on a transmission H-Frame project. When I’m not doing that I’m filling on either one of those crews, when short handed.

What are the qualities that someone would need to be successful in your occupation?

Good work ethic, willing to learn, attitude, being observant, willing to work long shifts and away from family.

Where would you like to see your career take you and what changes do you think are coming in your occupation in the next 5 years?

I would like to finish my safety and crane course but I don’t really have a 5 year plan, I’m just going with the flow with life.

What advice do you have for women following that are starting out or want to pursue a career path like yours?

Determination is key, don’t let discouragement throw you off. Have a good work ethic, attitude, willing to learn and pulling your weight.

Are there any final words you would like to say?

The line trade is amazing, happy to be apart of it. It can be tough, but I love going new places, working with new people and new challenges.
